What are the Youth Empowerment Programs at the NSWC?

The Girls Empowerment programming portfolio started at the North Shore Women's Centre in 2007, when we hosted our first free Girls' Empowerment Summer Camp. 

Adolescence and teenage years for girls and gender-diverse youth is extremely complicated in today's online world, and we want to provide a variety of free and accessible avenues to educate, encourage, and empower young people on the North Shore.

Our Girls' Empowerment Programming portfolio is made up of:
 
Rising Voices; a free 10-week program for girls and gender-diverse youth (ages 11-13) to build community, having empowering discussions, take part in fun activities + workshops, and so much more! 
 
Power in Connection; a free 10-week program for girls and gender-diverse youth (ages 14-18) about self-discovery and career mentorship. The youth will get the chance to meet various individuals in different careers, hear about their educational/career journeys, and learn about what their day-to-day looks like. This is a fantastic way to encourage curiosity and networking. 
 
Neurodivergent Empowerment Program; a free 10-week educational and social program for 6th-7th grade girls and gender-diverse youth who identify as neurodivergent (no diagnosis necessary)
 
Youth Empowerment Summer Camps; week-long day camps for pre-teens and teens. Programs available during July and August.
 
Flip the Script with A-EAAA™; a 12-hour evidence-based sexual assault prevention training offered by the NSWC for self-identified girls aged 16-19
 
Safe Dates; an evidence-based dating abuse prevention training for youth of all genders
 
Girls Hub, an online resource guide for young women and gender-diverse youth to learn about what is available to them on the North Shore (coming soon).
