About Our  Empowerment Camps

The Youth Empowerment Summer Camps are one-week day camps that take place each summer, for girls and gender-diverse youth. Started in 2007, the camps have supported youth entering grades 8-12 until 2023, when the NSWC's expanded youth programming portfolio allowed a split into two groups: Pre-Teen (for youth aged 11-13) Teen (for youth aged 13-16).

Led by an experienced youth facilitator, the camps aim to support pre-teen and teen girls in accessing their individual and collective strengths in order to empower themselves and help create social change.

Some of the topics covered during the camp typically include:

  • Friendships, relationships

  • Assertiveness, boundary setting

  • Self-esteem, body image

  • Bullying, cyberbullying

  • Media/social media awareness

These topics are explored by engaging in activities such

as discussion, games, art, video, music, drama, writing and

physical activities such as hiking, canoeing and interpretive tours,

as well as by inviting guest speakers.  A morning snack, lunch and all materials are included.

The camps are offered free of charge. Donations are always welcome. We gratefully acknowledge financial support from the City of North Vancouver, The West Vancouver Foundation and The Province of British Columbia.
